Tiffany Haddish’s ex reportedly secures Russell Simmons’ legal team to sue her

Tiffany Haddish‘s ex is set to sue her for defamation, and he’s using Russell Simmons‘ legal team to do it, reports to theJasmineBRAND.com.

William Stewart wasn’t thrilled when he read the claims Haddish made in her book, The Last Black Unicorn. In the book, Haddish described domestic abuse so bad that she lost an unborn fetus because of it.

Stewart disputed those claims, and now, he’s got Atlanta attorneys Michael T. Sterling and E. Carlos Tanner III to back him up and file libel and defamation claims against the Girls Trip star.

These same attorneys represented Simmons in his own recent legal woes.

‘I have never hit or beat a woman in my life’

After the book’s release, Stewart took to Instagram to defend himself.

“I ont [sic] want to respond to my character and my family matters in the book. At this time I will not through [sic] dirt at Tiffany or release things that I know will harm her. I actually don’t think this was all Tiffany’s doings [sic]… I think people were telling her they need to add stuff to fluff it up. I have NEVER HIT or beat a woman in my life. I’m hurting and thanks.”

Haddish blames the editors

As for Haddish, she admitted that some of the claims in the book were juiced up by her editors.

“I ain’t gon’ lie. Some stuff in the book is a little bit… I was like, ‘What?'” she said, adding,  “I don’t know if when they edit, maybe they tweak things a little. So, then, in the audiobook, I’m like, ‘No, this is what it is.'”

The restraining order

However, the claims might not be so outlandish. According to Los Angeles Superior Court documents obtained by Radar, Haddish filed the restraining order in July 2011.

In the documents, she explained numerous instances of abuse that closely match the stories she told in her book.

“We were in Montreal, Canada, when he choked me in the stairway of the hotel,” she wrote in the filing. “I ran away from him. I ran because he was trying to make me stay in the room. But I wanted to stay in the lobby and talk to my fellow comedians.”

She also described bruises on her neck from the alleged altercation and noted his “very strong hands” as a weapon.

“He ran after me and took me down to the ground. I got free and then he got me again. I could not get out or yell for help because he was sitting on me,” she continued in the documents.
