High school bully rips girl’s wig off for $5 bet

A high school girl was hurt and humiliated when a bully ripped off her wig for a bet with his friends.

A Snapchat video recorded at Franklin High School showed a teenage boy sneaking up on Lauren “LuLu” Williams to steal her wig and run off with it. The video was captioned “Weave snatchin.”

LuLu and her mother are now calling for the bullies to face justice.

“I was so angry. They all got together and just planned to humiliate her, and that was funny to them,” Myckelle Williams, LuLu’s mother, told News Channel 5.

Williams posted about the bullying on Facebook and explained that her daughter suffered from a scalp condition. She was able to gain a little self-confidence by wearing wigs, so it was especially damaging to her self-esteem to have that stolen from her.

What’s more, when the bullies snatched LuLu’s wig, it took chunks of hair with it, causing her further pain.

When LuLu tried to run into the bathroom to cry, another teen followed her to record her distress and keep taunting her.

“My hair is, like, my one place where I can feel safe, and I loved having wigs to express myself,” LuLu explained to WSMV-TV. “When they tore that off me, I felt basically naked and I felt so insecure myself and just terrible.”

After the bullying

Now, Williams wants the school to do more than just suspend the students, especially considering the epidemic of suicides in young Black people.

“The teen suicide rate has now DOUBLED and bullying has played a HUGE Role,” Williams wrote on Facebook. “If you have a teen in this situation, continue to uplift them and let them know that they are strong and beautiful and can own their insecurities and take control rather than being controlled.”

As for LuLu, she has found a way to turn what happened into a strength, shaving her head to take back her power over her appearance.

“My hair was one of my biggest insecurities, so I felt like he had taken my power and I wanted it back,” she told News Channel 5. “When I walk around with a bald head, he’ll know that he didn’t do anything but give me more power to speak out to other people.”
