Black man’s family says 10-year-old daughter watched as police ran over her father
An Atlanta man has been left in critical condition after allegedly being run over by a police car.
Angelica White said that she and her boyfriend, Demarco Person, were chased down by another car until they hit a utility pole. The police then arrived at the scene.
But East Point Police told Channel 2 Action News that the White and Person had tried to flee the scene of an accident. The police said that they had stopped their car and that an officer had spoken with Person, asking him to exit the vehicle.
But when Person got out of his vehicle, according to police, a different officer in a patrol car accidentally hit Person.
White recalled the gruesome scene, which was witnessed by Person’s 10-year-old daughter as well. The girl was a passenger in the car.

“He was screaming,” White said. “He couldn’t breathe.”
The 39-year-old man was taken to the hospital and is reportedly in critical condition.
Left to watch her son suffer
Person’s mother, Bridgette McDonald, said that her son is suffering from a fractured pelvis. He has several other broken bones and internal bleeding. He will need surgery for facial reconstruction.
“I wouldn’t wish this upon no parent,” she said.
She added that the police still haven’t told her exactly what happened that night.

“It’s hard for me right now,” she told Channel 2. “I’m trying to be strong. It’s hard to go in the hospital and see my son laying there and I still can’t talk to him.”
As for the East Point Police Department, they have not said whether or not the officer who hit Person has been placed on leave. They also haven’t commented on whether or not the incident that has left a father lying in a hospital bed is currently under investigation.
