Several months ago, Suge Knight’s fiancee struck a plea deal with prosecutors to avoid jail time. On Friday, she was sentenced to three years in jail for a probation violation related to the former music mogul’s murder trial.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Douglas Sortino ruled that Suge Knight’s fiancee Toi-Lin Kelly assisted Knight in violating a court order that limited his jailhouse phone calls. She also helped him arrange interviews with producers of a BET documentary that was about Death Row Records. That was the record label he founded in 1988.

The judge found that she was communicating with Knight through a private investigator which violated the terms of her probation.
“To me it’s pretty blatant, and frankly, jaw-dropping,” Sortino said, saying that he felt he had basically been slapped in the face after he granted her probation.
Last year, prosecutors accused Kelly of selling surveillance video related to Knight’s murder trial to TMZ. This came after a judge ruled that the recording could not be shared with the media.

In October, Kelly pleaded no contest to conspiring to violate a court order. She had to pay the $55,000 she was paid by TMZ in restitution and was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service. She was also given five years probation.
In court on Friday, she cried while reading a letter that called her arrests a “humbling” and “humiliating” experience.
Suge Knight’s fiancee then asked Judge Sortino to consider her and Knight’s 8-year-old son. If Kelly was to be incarcerated the child would be left with both parents in prison.
Suge Knight had been talking to journalists against a court order by using other inmates phone codes. Prosecutors were able to prove that Kelly had been placing money into the jail accounts of those inmates.
