Rihanna on education fundraising: ‘Our work is never done’

Recently, Rihanna helped to raise $2 billion for global education, but she isn’t going to stop there.

Not one to be complacent, Rihanna appeared at the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) fundraising conference in Senegal on Friday. ABC News reported that she addressed the crowd to “cheers and whistles” and told them that she wasn’t going to get complacent.

“We’ve made tremendous progress today, but of course, our work is never done,” Rihanna said. “We have a long way to go and this is a fight that we’re never going to stop fighting until every boy and every girl has access to education.”

Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation said in a statement from their official twitter account that the total amount raised on Friday was $2.3 billion.

Rihanna’s education drive

Rihanna has been working with her charity to drive donations and awareness for some time. Last summer, for example, a mini-documentary was released showing her teaching math to children in Malawi.

The country is facing budget challenges that harm their ability to help children learn, but Rihanna is enchanted by the way these children are able to pick up on math concepts through music and rhythm.

“I love that they learn in melody,” said Rihanna. “They adopt melody really, really quickly. And so if you can use that as a learning tool, I think that’s the most brilliant, brilliant thing.”

Watching the documentary, it’s easy to see why she was given Harvard University’s Humanitarian of the Year award last year. She genuinely cares about the issues that she champions as well as the people, especially children, affected by her actions.

“People make it seem way too hard, man,” she said when she accepted the award. “You don’t have to be rich to be a humanitarian.”

We’re sure that Rihanna will continue to set the example for how everyone, celebrities and laymen alike, should dig deep and help those in need.
