Gucci Mane Story Set to Hit the Big Screen in New Biopic

Gucci Mane is continuing on in his post-prison-bid bounce back with a new biopic based upon his New York Times bestselling book, The Autobiography of Gucci Mane.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have obtained life rights to the Alabama native’s story and plan to adapt it to film. His memoir is one of resiliency, struggle and triumph laced with tales of addiction, loneliness, betrayal and life behind bars.

Gucci Mane’s life

After living through sordid lows and few perceived highs, Gucci, whose real name is Radric Davis, served a two-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. It was during this sentence, and with the help of his then-girlfriend, Keyshia Ka’oir, that Gucci was inspired to write music and begin to turn his life around.

“For so long I’d felt like I’d been dealt a bad hand,” the musician shares in his book. “But prison is a humbling experience. It was hell in there and over time that made me start to appreciate all my blessings on the outside. I had a damn good life waiting for me.”

Though the project just recently received the greenlight, Gucci hinted at such a deal being in the works in a January tweet, which put fans on high alert.

The film will be produced by Erica Huggins and Brian Grazer whose rosters of credits include 8 Mile and A Beautiful Mind and Empire.

After Gucci Mane’s prison term, the “East Atlanta Santa” as he calls himself, wasted no time hoping back into the music game. In fact, one day after his release, he dropped his hit single, the Mike Will-Made It-produced “First Day Out the Feds.” After blazing the charts, he went on to drop popular mixtapes and albums, marry the love of his life Keyshia Ka’oir (in a televised event on BET) and perform at venues around the nation.

The platinum-selling artist is busy and clearly focused on living his best life!
