Josh Duhamel defends Fergie’s NBA All-Star Game national anthem performance

They may have announced their split back in September but Josh Duhamel is still staunchly in Fergie’s corner.

The actor paid a visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday and while there he defended Fergie’s widely panned performance of the national anthem at the NBA All-Star Game.

“She’s been slammed and hammered for this national anthem thing. That must be hard,” said Ellen. “How is she doing?”

“I think she would probably admit that it was not her best work. But the girl’s crazy talented, she really is. She’s an amazing woman, an amazing human being, really,” Josh Duhamel stated.

The Unsolved actor who shares custody with Fergie of their son Axl, who is four, added, “It’s hard to see someone you care about get beat up like that. But that’s the business — you’re in this business and you put yourself out there, and sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t.”

Fergie put out a statement Monday in response to the flak she has gotten of her torch singer rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, saying, “I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly, this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”

As we reported at the time, the former frontwoman for the Black Eyed Peas performed a disgraceful rendition of The National Anthem at the NBA All-Star game on Sunday and folks pulled no punches dragging her on social media.

The 8-time Grammy winner butchered nearly every note of the anthem in an attempt to sex it up a la Marilyn Monroe, while a star-studded crowd that included Beyonce, Jimmy Kimmel, Anthony Anderson, and Chance the Rapper.

Ellen says she still feels “really bad” for Fergie because of the heaping criticism the singer has received since her performance.

“Trust me, she’s fine,” Josh Duhamel reassured her. “She is about as resilient as they come.”
