Netflix has finally set a release date for season two of Luke Cage, the superhero show helmed by Cheo Hodari Coker, leaving everybody in anticipation of Mike Colter returning in the streets, doing his thing in the title role.

EXCLUSIVE: Cheo Hodari Coker on how Hollywood will change after ‘Black Panther’

Peep this season’s synopsis:

After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.

Alfre Woodard, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi, Mustafa Shakir, Gabrielle Dennis and Rosario Dawson will be back for the second season of this addictive series and the first episode will be directed by Lucy Liu. Coker, Jim Chory and Jeph Loeb are the executive producers.

TheGrio caught up with Coker last month and found out what goes in to making a series of this magnitude.

According to Coker, the strength and power of projects like Luke Cage and Black Panther are based on how much they speak to the masses.

“What I call it is being ‘inclusively Black.’ For example, with albums like Stevie Wonder’s Songs In The Key of Life or Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue, those are records that are so deeply a part of the African-American experience and yet, they came in such a way that everybody could understand them and relate to them and groove to them,” he said.

“Even [Michael Jackson’sThriller, you have the Beat Its and Billie Jeans that really resonated with the mainstream, but if you go to a Black barbecue, PYT is the song that’s playing.”
