Serena Williams‘ brush with death in the days after giving birth turned a spotlight on the importance of maternal health, especially when it comes to Black women.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Black women are 3 to 4 times more likely than white women to die from pregnancy or childbirth-related causes. This alarming statistic is one reason why it’s critical to uplift Black mothers and give them the support they need.
