There was shock and disbelief when two men who were accused of the gang rape of a 13-year-old girl were only sentenced to probation.

Tommy Williams, 20, and Clarence Williams, 19, were sentenced to at least 10 years of sex offender intensive supervised probation, with the maximum sentence being life on probation, according to KKTV.

The two men were part of a group of six men who were accused of gang raping the teen in a Colorado Springs apartment in December 2016. Some of the accused men are reportedly brothers or cousins.

Police say that the victim told them that she knew one of the six men and that she had been invited over to the apartment play video games. At first, a few other female friends had come, but while the young girl was in the bathroom, those friends reportedly left the apartment.

The victim told police that two men then pulled her out of the bathroom and forced her into a bedroom where the rest of the men were waiting. The men then allegedly gang raped her.

The probationary sentences for the gang rape have left the victim’s family outraged.

“There was six of them and they gang-raped my granddaughter,” the victim’s grandfather told KKTV.

The devastated grandmother added that the 13-year-old might never be able to have children as a result of the gang rape.

According to KKTV, the grandmother told the court that her granddaughter has been in therapy for the past 14 months and is still struggling. She was supposed to speak in court before Tuesday’s sentencing, but had an anxiety attack and couldn’t bring herself to appear.
