Days after Michelle Williams returned to the stage alongside her Destiny’s Child besties, Beyonce and Kelly Rowland at Beychella, the singer announced that her man, Chad Johnson, put a ring on it—a whopping 5-carat diamond, at that!

The 37-year-old singer got engaged to her 40-year-old beau on March 21 and shared the details with PEOPLE.

Here are 5 things to know about Michelle Williams’ future husband, Chad Johnson:

They met at the right time.

Chad Johnson met Michelle Williams in March of 2017 at a spiritual retreat at a time when the singer was in need of some TLC. “I was in a horrible, dark place,” Williams said of the time they met. “I just needed to go somewhere where I could get a message of hope and restoration, rejuvenation — get connected to God.”

It seems God stepped in to bring these two together and Williams hopes their story will inspire others to be patient. “Don’t lose hope in love…I do think you should not focus so much that if you’re not in love that you get depressed about it. Just don’t lose hope. But definitely be doing what you can do to make yourself a better person for the person that possibly is on the way for you.”

He’s white.

“I’m white, she’s black,” Johnson told the mag. “What a special time for our relationship to be on display in that respect with the tension in the world and in our country.”

Although he’s currently based in Phoenix, Johnson plans to move to Los Angeles to live with Williams after they tie the knot.

He wants to have kids.

“The biggest desire in my life is to have a wife and kids,” he told PEOPLE. “I was getting ready to turn 40, she’s in her late 30s…Neither of us have been married, had children, and I think you just get to a place sometimes where you’re just so career-driven, so focused on what you’re doing at the moment, that it’s kind of a comfort zone. … Both of us were in very similar places on a personal level.”

And Johnson is up to the task of being a father thanks to the fact that he helped raise two of his nephews.

He has been approved by the inner circle.

Johnson reportedly met Rowland in July, then got a chance to meet Beyoncé and JAY-Z at the annual Made in America Festival in September. Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles-Lawson, gave the couple her blessing in an Instagram post a few moths back.

“This is my newest favorite couple ❤They are evenly Yoked❤❤A fine young man❤A gorgeous young lady inside and out,” she posted.

He’s a man of God.

Johnson has a bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministries from Arizona Christian University and has worked as a pro sports chaplain. He has spent years leading pro athletes from the L.A. Dodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Arizona Cardinals in daily devotionals with their families.

He also runs a nonprofit, Elevate International, which is dedicated to serving urban youth and their families through spiritual retreats like the one he met Williams at.
