Steve McQueen is gearing up for the release of his star-studded thriller, Widows and the film’s first official trailer has us on the edge of our seats.
The director of 12 Years a Slave wrote the script along with Gone Girl author, Gillian Flynn about four grieving women played by Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Rodriguez.
All four of the women were married to criminals who lost their lives while attempting to pull off a heist the ladies decide to complete themselves.
Liam Neeson plays Viola Davis’ husband and is joined by Colin Farrell, Lukas Haas, Robert Duvall, Jon Bernthal, Carrie Coon, Andre Holland, and Daniel Kaluuya. Talk about star power!
“Our husbands aren’t coming back. We’re on our own,” Davis’ character says in the trailer. “They stole a lot of money and now people want it from us. Now, the best thing we have going for us is being who we are.”
It seems the women are up against some serious obstacles, but that doesn’t stop them from trying to finish what their dead husbands started.
“Because no one thinks we have the balls to pull this off,” she says.
Widows is the first theatrical release from McQueen since he won the Oscar for Best Picture for 12 Years a Slave in 2013. Since then, he has directed a number of short films as well as Kanye West’s music video for “ All Day/ I Feel Like That.”
Widows is due out on November 16.
