Kevin Durant surprises students with vow to pay for their first year of college

Kevin Durant is spreading his winning spirit to the kids he mentored at a California Boys & Girls Clubs and gave them a special surprise when he vowed to pay their first year tuition, according to the Bleacher Report.

Durant is definitely his little brother’s keeper in the Bay Area and has committed $13 million to community causes this year.

This feel-good moment comes when the Golden State Warriors player is riding high with a 2-0 team lead in the NBA finals over the Cleveland Cavaliers. And while the 29-year-old didn’t have much to say about his charitable gift, his teammate Quinn Cook praised the All-Star forward for his philanthropic pursuits.

“It means a lot to the community,” he said. “It’s not just the amount of money that he donated. It’s the constant support that he gives to the kids. He’s always back, showing his face.”

Cook added: “He’s like a superhero—on and off the court—to the kids back home.”

Durant is taking the lead on and off the court.

He found his steady stroke to score 26 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists while also handling a load of the defensive assignment against James in Game 2 of the NBA finals.

With his helping hand giving deserving kids some financial help at college, the NBA superstar definitely lives up to his self-proclaimed nickname: The Servant.

“I like to serve everybody. My teammates. Ushers at the game. The fans,” Durant said recently, according to ESPN.

In the meanwhile, his teammate Stephen Curry and rival LeBron James might be warring on the court during the NBA finals, but they are standing in solidarity and said whichever team wins, neither one intends to pay President Trump a White House visit.

Durant has been criticized for a lot of things—like not getting a haircut or combing his hair—but you can’t take away that he’s doing big things for the culture.
