Afro-Latinas use Instagram and online groups to celebrate their black beauty (WATCH)

Black is beautiful to growing communities of Afro-Latina women

Sometimes you have to bring your own seat to the table.

Afro-Latinas who are tired of being ignored by mainstream media outlets who only show one type of Hispanic beauty, are creating their own spaces to celebrate that beauty online.

In a recently published story in The New York Times, theGrio’s Deputy Editor, Natasha S. Alford, explored the topic by sharing her journey of becoming a proud Afro-Latina.

Alford gathered Amanda Pericles (@afrolatinas_), Nydia Simone (@blactina) and Janel Martinez (@aintilatina), a group of Afro-Latina women and Instagram influencers, to talk about beauty, race, identity and the power of technology to change narratives.
