Diddy dishes on his his time living with the Amish and learning to milk cows

Who knew that Diddy's path to the top included a stop on an Amish farm where he learned to milk cows in Lancaster, Pennsylvania?

Diddy, born Sean Combs, is a business man whose road to success has been long and winding. But who knew that his path to the top included a stop on an Amish farm where he learned to milk cows in Lancaster, Pennsylvania?

Well it’s true, Diddy told Jimmy Kimmel, revealing what he considered to be the “greatest” time of his life as a youth who spent a summer in a not-so-common location in an Amish community.

Diddy told Kimmel that along with learning how to pull udders with precision, he picked berries during his two-month stay away from the norms of society. Amish people live tech-free, no telephones or TVs and embrace a more traditional way of life.

“I had to milk cows, I’d pick berries. It was a lot of chores. They wake up and they do their chores,” explained Diddy. “It’s a chance to really kind of get away and just no electronics. It really teaches you how to just relate with each other.”

That was a stretch for the native New Yorker, especially since the Amish use a horse and buggy to get around and not the NYC subway that Diddy was used to as a kid.

Thanks to Diddy’s momma Janice, she applied to a program called the Fresh Air Fund, a non-profit agency that gives low-income kids an opportunity to take a short in Amish country.

“I remember we used to go to church and at the church, they used to just have these lavish meals. And it really kind of taught you family. I rode around in a horse and buggy everywhere.”

Mogul in the Making

Diddy credits the experience to shaping him into the mogul he is today.

“It’s one of the things that helped to make me who I am,” said Diddy who has had noted accomplishments in the music, spirits, clothing, and online media industries.

“And now you’ve got a Bentley,” joked Kimmel.

According to Forbes magazine, Diddy is worth nearly a billion dollars – $825 million to be exact.

Although Diddy lost touch with his Amish family, he said “It would be great” to reconnect with them.

“I had no way to stay in touch with them,” he said, adding: “I think about them all the time. And I’m just like, man, I wonder if they know, you know, what I grew up to be. But I don’t think they did.”
