It looks like Apartment Patty’s soon to be ex-husband, who refers to himself as “a man of color” is at least partly Black and is fully distancing himself from her racially biased antics.

Last weekend, St. Louis resident Hillary Brooke Mueller—dubbed Apartment Patty by the internet—became the latest white woman to find herself on the wrong side of fame, after a clip of her attempting to keep a Black man from entering his own apartment went viral.

First thing Monday, her employers at Tribeca-STL, which manages real estate elsewhere in the city, saw the video and unceremoniously fired her. Then they released a statement on the company website stating they wanted nothing to do with her.

“The Tribeca-STL family is a minority-owned company that consists of employees and residents from many racial backgrounds,” it read. “We are proud of this fact and do not and never will stand for racism or racial profiling at our company.”

Now, it appears her estranged husband, Brandon Mueller is attempting to follow suit. In a video released on his Facebook account he begins, “I want to take the time to express my deep disappointment in the incident that took place in Mr. Toles’ home.”

“The individual in the video and I have been separated for over a year, and I, myself, no longer reside at the Elder Shirt Lofts building,” he states clarifying that their marriage is only on paper at this point.

“As a man of color, I have spent most of my professional career teaching others the importance of diversity and inclusion. My only hope is that we as a community can use this as an opportunity to do what my late father taught me years ago: To not allow others’ ignorance to incite anger and hatred, but to use it as an opportunity to learn, grow and promote love.”

Though Mrs. Mueller has gone on a bit of a media tour, in hopes of explaining why she isn’t racist, the people closest to her don’t seem to be coming to her defense.

It is also worth noting that she is now requesting to be addressed by her maiden name, Hilary Thornton. But to us she will forever be, Apartment Patty.
