A Morehouse student is recovering at an Atlanta hospital after getting shot during an attempted carjacking at a gas station on Sunday.

Geoffrey Willis suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and legs after Willis confronted a man who tried to steal his car stationed at a pump. Willis emerged from inside the Shell gas station near campus and approached the suspect.

After the attempted carjacking, the suspect then jumped into a getaway car, when a passenger unloaded and started shooting, hitting Willis

“It’s just really not safe for our children out here,” a woman who frequents the gas station, told, WSBTV.

The Atlanta Police Department is reviewing surveillance video to get a lead on the suspects. The Morehouse College Police Department described the suspects as juveniles who may be traveling in a stolen black Mercedes.

Willis is a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

This incident is the latest in a series of assaults on Morehouse students in recent week.

Earlier this month there were two carjacking attempts at gunpoint. After the second incident, Morehouse College issued a statement:

“We care about the safety of our students and are thankful that no one has been injured in these southwest Atlanta neighborhood incidents. We have asked Atlanta Police to increase community surveillance and patrols in the area.” it goes on to say, “we will remain vigilant during this investigation and keep in close contact with the APD until these suspects are apprehended,” the college statement concluded.
