White man who brutally insulted elderly disabled Black woman on airplane offers lame apology ‘I’m not a racist person’
A racist man who said racist things to an elderly Black woman on a Ryanair flight has now apologized and says – wait for it – says he’s not racist.
David Mesher went viral this week after launching into a nasty verbal assault against his seat neighbor 77-year-old Delsie Gayle, called her an ‘ugly black bastard’ and requested she not be seated next to him.
Shockingly, the airline complied with his offensive request.
The footage capture on cellphone went viral on social media and now Mesher is speaking out against his critics and saying he just lost his temper “a bit.”
But what about the racism?
“I probably lost my temper a bit and ordered her to get up,” Mesher said, adding that he “absolutely” regrets his behavior, The Guardian reports.
“I’m not a racist person by any means and it’s just a fit of temper at the time, I think,” he said. “I apologize for all the distress you’ve had there and since.”
Gayle has indeed been distressed and in a previous interview said she is “shocked” and has been “depressed” by the treatment. Gayle was traveling from Barcelona to London on October 19. The trip was a gift because she was feeling so down after losing her husband.
The outlet asked Gayle is he would accept Mesher’s too little, too late apology.
“I don’t think so,” she said. “You must forget and forgive but it’s going to take a long time for me to get over what he has done to me.”

Her daughter added: “He says he wasn’t racist. He wouldn’t be saying words like that if he wasn’t racist.”
A spokeswoman for Essex police previous said “Essex Police takes prejudice-based crime seriously and we want all incidents to be reported.
“We are working closely with Ryanair and the Spanish authorities on the investigation.”
They have followed up saying that the Spanish crew didn’t realize that there was a confrontation taking place.
“As far as cabin crew were concerned, that was the end of the matter, and since there was no threat to aircraft safety the issue of offloading one passenger did not arise,” Ryanair said.
Sounds like some sensitive training with the crew needs to take place as well.
