Al Roker claps back at racist trolls calling him out for ‘whiteface’ Halloween costume

Confused white folks went crazy on the internet and put Today weatherman Al Roker in the middle of a fake controversy, over dressing up as a white movie character for Halloween.

Oprah, Pence offer competing visions of ‘Georgia values’

At issue, white people have been looking to have a “gotcha” moment after Megyn Kelly got booted off the Today show because of her insensitive comments defending wearing blackface. So when Roker dressed up as the iconic nutty professor Doc Brown from the Back to the Future movies, for some reason people, took offense to a Black man cosplaying a white character – even though Roker didn’t paint his face white.

Slap your hand on your forehand, right here.

If it makes no sense, it’s because it makes no sense! Clearly folks just wanted to find a reason to tear into the Today show host who has happily replaced Kelly in the host seat after her abrupt departure.

Someone actually took time to write: @alroker: Goes as Doc brown, a white character from a movie for halloween.#Hypocrites #Whiteface”

There’s no comparison between Kelly’s situation and Roker’s Halloween costume choice.

Roker addressed the dumbness and put the hammer down on Twitter saying:

“I’m going to say this one last time. But the folks who get it, understand and the ones who DON’T, won’t. I can be Doc Brown, and I wear the outfit and wig and not change my skin color if you’re white, you can be President Obama if you want. Just don’t color your skin!”

Halloween Costume Confusion

Racists have been trolling Black folks this Halloween in a failed effort to catch us wearing whiteface. It ain’t happening. But unfortunately, Gabrielle Union – who didn’t wear white face—got criticized for dressing up as singer Gwen Stefani.

Last weekend, to celebrate both Halloween and Stefani’s 46th birthday, the actress transformed herself into Stefani during her heyday as the lead singer of the group, No Doubt. She even shot a cute clip of her rocking out to the band’s classic hit, “Just A Girl.’

When Union tagged Stefani on Instagram and Stefani responded with: “@gabunion obviously this made me soooooo happy!! Gx”

Despite the mutual admiration shared by the two women, some racists on Twitter tried to call up the ghost of “reverse racism” (a term many have explained ad nauseam isn’t a real thing) and complained that it’s unfair that Today host Megyn Kelly was ousted from her daytime talk show while Union’s costume was clearly an example of what they are calling “whiteface.”

The fact that the Being Mary Jane star wore no complexion-altering make up and merely slapped on an outfit and a wig, somehow seemed to be lost on these people as they vehemently cried foul.
