Drive-by shooters open fire on set of Tekashi 6ix9ine, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj video
Police say an unknown gunman opened fire at the Beverly Hills location, prompting a shut down of production
A chaotic scene erupted after shots were fired on the set of Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Tekashi 6ix9ine’s music video, causing onlookers to flee.
According to TMZ, Thursday night, West and 6ix9ine were both present at the Beverly Hills production site when multiple shots were fired near the house where they filming. Minaj was on her way to the location and only minutes away when the incident took place.
Audio of the emergency dispatch revealed that both fire and ambulance officials, as well as a helicopter, were deployed to Alpine Drive, a street known for top-tier stars and homes. The original 911 call came from a concerned neighbor, followed by additional calls from frightened members of the community.
Police told TMZ that they received a call about shots being fired around 10:25 p.m. local time, and a witness on-set estimated that “approximately 8 shots” were fired. Even though at least one bullet went through a bedroom window, fortunately no injuries were reported. West decided to leave immediately after what is now being characterized as a drive-by shooting.
According to the Blast, Friday morning, sources gave an update that authorities had recovered “at least 5 shell casings” near the property.
6ix9ine’s team had rented out the $80 million estate as the backdrop for a new music video for a series of songs on his new album featuring Kanye and Nicki.
Given that they were at one of the most exclusive, expensive streets in Beverly Hills, the incident came as a shock and the production was halted because the crew was too shaken up to continue.
Earlier this week, 6ix9ine’s manager Shottie surrendered to the New York Police due to his alleged involvement in escalating beef between 6ix9ine’s team and a label head’s security detail. The investigation is ongoing and there has been no confirmation on if the two cases are related.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance video, TMZ reported.
