Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have a way of making their family life look easy but the couple has been coming clean about how they have navigated the tough road of marriage and raising a blended family.
In a recent Instagram post, Will Smith opened up about his relationship with his eldest son, Trey and revealed that their relationship wasn’t always picture perfect.
In the video clip, Smith explains that he’s currently on a trip with to Abu Dhabi and brought his oldest son along. He was nearly brought to tears while recounting Try’s revelation that his dad is his “best friend.”
“So I’m in Abu Dhabi at the F1. I brought my son Trey. We been hanging and usually I take my kids separately on stuff just so they have their individual daddy time,” he says in the video.
“So we been doing this, me and him hanging out at the F1. And he just hit me with, ‘You know what dad? I just realized you’re not just my dad.’ He paused and he said, ‘I’m pretty sure you’re my best friend’…I was like, ‘Whoo. Yeah, man. Probably. Probably.'”
He captioned the touching video with some truth about the pair’s relationship and revealed they weren’t always as close as they are now.
“It has not always been like this between Trey & I. We STRUGGLED FOR YEARS after my Divorce from his Mother. He felt betrayed & abandoned. It is a Wild Blessing to recover & restore a Loving Relationship with My Beautiful Son! @treysmith0011,” he posted.
Seeing a doting dad love on his son never gets old.
