Pregnant Meghan Markle and bestie Serena Williams hit NYC for post-baby shower glam dinner
With a new bundle of joy on the way, the Duchess of Sussex took some time with celebrity friends in the Big Apple for a post-baby shower get together
Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle was recently spotted baby bumpin’ around New York City with tennis superstar Serena Williams and others in her tight knit crew, PEOPLE.com reported.
After a star-studded baby shower hosted by a few of her close friends, the retired actress turned royal celebrated by dining at fashion exec Ralph Lauren’s restaurant, The Polo Bar. The intimate group reportedly consisted of Markle and 15 of her closest friends.
Markle, 37, who married Prince Harry last May, is expecting her first child in April and celebrated her baby’s pending homecoming at The Mark hotel in Manhattan.
Although Markle’s mom Doria Ragland was spotted in their hometown of Los Angeles on the day of her shower, that doesn’t mean the Duchess wasn’t without good company during her five-day stay in the Big Apple.
The post-baby shower dinner included close friends Serena Williams, stylist and host Jessica Mulroney and Markus Anderson — who was responsible for bringing the royal couple together. Just days after hosting a party for her one-year-old, Olympia, Williams also attended Markle’s “secret” shower on the Upper East side earlier in the day, along with Mulroney and Abigail Spencer, who acted alongside Markle on the sitcom Suits.
The Duchess’ shower and New York visit comes just days ahead of her and husband Prince Harry’s visit to Morocco, where the expectant parents will be making an appearance for their ongoing causes to support girls’ education and youth empowerment.
For those concerned about the mom-to-be’s busy itinerary, Dickie Arbiter, former press secretary to Queen Elizabeth, assured fans via a statement to Us Weekly that Meghan“will begin maternity leave from royal duties” ahead of her first child’s arrival.” He also added that Markle is “full of energy and in good spirits” as she enjoys the “busy work schedule she has at the moment.”
