Woman hits $150K lottery jackpot after playing same number 30 times in one day

Deborah Brown used a system that, however unlikely, paid off for her in the Virginia lottery. She's not the only one who has won using this method

A Virginia woman had the lucky streak of a lifetime and it earned her a $150,000 lottery win in the Virginia lottery after playing the same number times 30 times over, NBC News reports.

Deborah Brown purchased 30 Pick Four tickets, each with the combination of 1-0-3-1, apparently magic numbers that brought Brown out on top. In fact, the top prize for $1 play is $5,000.

Brown said she initially bought 20 tickets at a gas station in Chesterfield County, Va.

“A couple of times during the day, I saw those numbers,” Brown said. She was compelled to buy 10 more tickets later that day at that same location.

On Feb. 11, Brown watched the late-night Pick 4 drawing, and was taken aback when her numbers hit.

“I nearly had a heart attack,” Brown said, according to a statement from Virginia Lottery.

The Virginia lottery said the odds of matching all four numbers in order are 1 in 10,000.

Brown is now $150,000 richer, but says she doesn’t have plans to do anything with her winnings, except maybe to renovate her home.

Although the odds are unclear, playing the same numbers consistently can at times pay off. Last November, a New York man won $343 million in the Powerball jackpot after playing the same digits for 25 years.

Robert Bailey, 67, took the prize after plaiyng the number he played religiously at a deli in Harlem.

“I was taking care of a friend,” he told reporters at Resorts World Casino in Jamaica, Queens, Wednesday. “I jumped out of the car because it was raining, ran in there, played my numbers and ran out.”

“A family member gave me the numbers over 25 years ago and I faithfully play them,” he said. After taxes Bailey walked away with $125.3 million — the fourth-largest payoff in U.S. history and the top win ever in New York State.

It’s also not the first time the method worked for him. Once before he scored $30,000 playing the same lucky numbers on a Take 5 ticket.
