Rapper OG Maco reveals he has flesh-eating disease

Rapper OG Maco revealed over the weekend that he has been suffering from flesh-eating disease but that he is on the mend.

OG Maco, 26, whose given name is Maco Mattox, used Instagram to tell people that he thanks his medical team and God for the fact that he is recovering. The rapper is probably best known for his breakout 2014 hit “U Guessed It.”

“I was improperly treated for a minor rash and ended up with a skin-eating disease for the last few months,” said OG Maco, whose skin appears discolored and bumpy in the video.

“This is the best I’ve looked,” he said. “I hope it gives someone hope.”

The rapper said that the people who he would consider his support system vanished as he battled the ailment, known as necrotizing fasciitis. The infection spreads throughout the body and can be deadly, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“I’ve been going through this alone 90 percent of the time, without the support of the person I love, without most of my ‘friends,’ without anything but my own strength and God,” he said. “I’ve been scared a lot. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I didn’t know if I’d lose my entire face. I almost did.”

OG Maco used Twitter to thank his fans for their support involving his condition.

“I love you all and I appreciate your support,” he posted. “Thank you.”

Fans on Twitter said they would stick by the rapper and wished him a quick return to health.
