Being a politician is a tall order but New York City Councilman Robert Cornegy doesn’t mind answering to the call of his constituents.

Cornegy also fits the bill as the tallest politician in the world too, standing at 6′ 10″l, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Or so he thought.

“Today, I get a chance to send a resounding message to all the young people in the world, who may come in different packages, they may not have the normal physical stature and would like to still make a difference, that you can absolutely do that and you don’t have to be relegated to a particular segment of society based on how you look,” Cornegy said.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (himself standing 6′ 5″) gave the Cornegy a certificate for holding the record but Warrensville Heights, Ohio Mayor Brad Sellers begs to differ and says Guinness got it all wrong, the New York Daily News reports.

Sellers, a former power forward for four NBA teams — the Chicago Bulls, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Detroit Pistons and the Seattle SuperSonics — reportedly stands at 7 feet tall.

He even recorded a video obtained by the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper showing a reporter measuring him on Wednesday.

“The tale of the tape don’t lie,” Sellers told the Daily News. “I’m sure he’s doing a good job in Brooklyn, but you can ask four different NBA teams.”

No word on how Guinness ended up making the big gaffe, but you better believe, Sellers said his people are already reaching out to Guinness to straighten things out.

Cornegy also got word that his rival is coming for his new record and he’s not prepared to relinquish it so easily.

“I happen to know Brad Sellers personally, and he’s not 7 feet,” he said. “You can meet me halfway between here and Ohio, Brad.”
