Country music and hip hop fans are coming together on social media after country rocker Billy Ray Cyrus jumped on the remix of Lil Nas X hit song “Old Town Road.”
And based on the reactions of Black Twitter, Cyrus might get invited to perform at the barbecue.
The odd couple came together after the hit by Lil Nas X, whose given name is Montero Lamar Hill, was removed from the Billboard country charts last week, CNN reports.
Cyrus stepped in with words of support on Twitter, telling Lil Nas X that he was once thrown off the charts and advised by fellow country singer Waylon Jennings to take it as a compliment because it “means you’re doing something great!” Cyrus also wrote, “Only outlaws are outlawed. Welcome to the club!”
.@LilNasX Been watching everything going on with OTR. When I got thrown off the charts, Waylon Jennings said to me “Take this as a compliment” means you’re doing something great! Only Outlaws are outlawed. Welcome to the club!

As it turns out, Lil Nas X posted a plea to his fans back in December to please help him convince Cyrus to record with him. Cyrus apparently decided to respond, and Lil Nas X released a remix of his song featuring the 57-year-old country singer, dad to singer Miley Cyrus.
Lil Nas X, who tweets as @nope, was all over Twitter expressing gratitude and said that Cyrus even stopped by to offer some support.
“Billy caught me in the studio while I was geeked and gave me some words of inspiration,” Lil Nas X tweeted.

#Oscarssowhite hashtag creator April Reign weighed in as well.
I don’t know who Lil Nas X is.
I have never seen it for Billy Ray OR his daughter. Even back to those Achy Breaky Heart days.
If you think Imma stream the Old Town Road remix just to get the numbers up so Billboard HAS to do something…
You’re absolutely right, Tex. pic.twitter.com/0MkVFLOC5i

Lil Nas X posted Friday morning, “This is the most unreal moment of my life so far.”
Maybe all of this is an early birthday present for the rapper, who turns 20 on Tuesday.
