Actor says that the other castmates haven’t mentioned reprising their role, but believes it would be 'silly to not at least give nods to the fam'

Tahj Mowry is working to reprise his role as TJ Henderson, in a Smart Guy reboot.

“We’ve got the ball rolling on a Smart Guy revival,” the former child star reveals. “It’s sort of going to be a sequel, a continuation.”

Fans are curious as to what to expect from the new who. Mowry did not disappoint as he shared with VICE, “You’ll be brought into where TJ is and what he’s up to now.”

“I came up with a really fresh take that will be different enough so even if you didn’t watch the original you’ll still be able to enjoy it,” he continued.

Smart Guy, starring Mowry, premiered in 1997 on The WB Television Network. After the show’s three-season run it was canceled by The WB and replayed on Disney shortly after in the 2000s.

The show starred a prepubescent Mowry playing a true-to-age genius.

Mowry’s character is smart enough to skip 6 grades. For three seasons, this quirky-adventurous young boy navigated high school.

His Smart Guy crew consisted of his siblings played by Essence Atkins, and Jason Weaver, and his brother’s pal ‘Mo’ played by, Omar Gooding. The audience gets to watch as lessons are passed back and forth generationally.

Mowry’s other castmates haven’t mentioned reprising their role, but he told popular site, it would be “silly to not at least give nods to the fam.”

ComedyHype.com spoke to Weaver and he said that he would be interested.

“I would be open to it, if they wanted to do it. I would be down,” says Weaver who played Marcus Henderson on the show.

Since the ending of Smart Guy, Mowry has acted in several movies and sitcoms, including a six-season role on Freeform’s Three Men and a Baby.

However, he explained that more of the 20 years following his time on Smart Guy has been spent at home, where he cooks and spends time with family.

“I like to give people a chance to miss me and wonder where I’m at. I keep a level of mystery attached, and I’m very thankful that I grew into my ears,” 33-year-old, Mowry told VICE

Mowry’s preferred platform for the reboot is Disney+, or another steaming platform such as Hulu, Freeform, or ABC. There is no release date at this time.
