Fox host praises Jill Biden’s DNC speech, calls Michelle Obama’s ‘angry’
Obama’s speech was praised on Twitter for its direct, face-forward approach.
The “angry Black woman” trope has persisted for a century, and in his commentary about the Democratic National Convention, Fox News analyst, Brit Hume, used it against former first lady, Michelle Obama.
During the conservative network’s roundup of the events of day two of the convention, Hume praised Dr. Jill Biden as “very likable” for her address where she spoke to many of her husband’s strengths.

Hume said, “She highlighted things about Joe Biden’s character and temperament that were touched on by others, which are real, and which members of both parties have recognized in him for a long time, he’s a very decent guy.”
“I think this speech tonight by Jill Biden was tremendously effective,” Hume said.
“In the sense that it didn’t have a hard angry edge that we heard last night, to a considerable extent, from Michelle Obama.”
Mrs. Obama delivered a searing personal attack on President Donald Trump on the opening night of the convention. She said that Trump was “in over his head” and “the wrong president for our country,” among other things.
Wearing a gold necklace that said “VOTE,” Obama urged Americans to vote for Biden “like our lives depend on it.”

“He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head,” she said. “He cannot meet this moment. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us. It is what it is,” she said.

On Tuesday, President Trump tried to attack the former first lady by offering a twist on a line from her speech. “She was over her head,” he said.
“She gets these fawning reviews,” Trump said during a White House ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote.
“If you gave a real review, it wouldn’t be so fawning.”
“I wouldn’t be in the White House except for Barack Obama,” he said. “Because they did a bad job – Biden, and Obama. If they did a good job, I wouldn’t be here. I’d be building buildings someplace and having a good time.”
