Apple and Mariah Carey announced an upcoming holiday TV celebration, “Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special,” the R&B diva’s newest contribution to Christmas entertainment.
With Christmas Day four months away, Mariah Carey and Apple TV+ have confirmed the production of the 2020 holiday-season show, which, according to Vulture, will be directed by award-winning British director Hamish Hamilton and award-winning French screenwriter and producer Roman Coppola.
Theirs is an exclusive event “driven by a universally heartwarming story that brings the world together,” said Apple in a statement.
Monday’s news of the Apple TV+ special was dropped 27 years ago to the date Carey released her third album, the worldwide favorite Music Box. At 28 million in global sales, it is the highest-selling of her 15 albums.

“Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special” will be executive produced by Carey, Ian Stewart, Raj Kapoor and Ashley Edens, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
She is the self-proclaimed queen of Christmas. Carey’s 1994 holiday album, Merry Christmas, features her top-grossing hit song, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
In 2015, she hosted “Mariah Carey’s Merriest Christmas,” which featured special guests and a celebrity reading of the poem, “The Night Before Christmas.” In 2019, her hit song re-entered Billboard’s Hot 100 list at #1, and she discussed the creation of her holiday classic in an Amazon special, “Mariah Carey is Christmas: The Story of ‘All I Want for Christmas is You,'” which also featured celebrity guests and its share of song and dance.

According to reports, “Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special” is expected to repeat those well-received productions, with lots of singing and dancing by Carey, in collaboration with other celebrity guests.
Apple has dubbed it “a magical holiday journey to enliven the Christmas spirit around the world.”
Carey also announced the September release of her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, and the October release of a new album, The Rarities. This December, “Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special” will premiere exclusively on Apple TV+.
