Trump says contracting coronavirus was a ‘blessing from God’

The president tested positive for COVID-19 last week and spent three days hospitalized.

President Donald Trump claims a COVID cure is imminent and that his coronavirus infection was a “blessing from God.”

Trump’s remarks were taped by White House staff in front of the Oval Office on Wednesday afternoon, in what was his first appearance since returning from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Monday.

Trump tested positive for COVID-19 last Thursday and spent three days hospitalized. In the newly released video, the president declares the experimental coronavirus drug he was given is a “cure” that will soon be available for free to Americans.

“I wasn’t feeling so hot and within a short period of time they gave me Regeneron,” he said, referring to the company behind the experimental drug he received, CNN reports. “It was unbelievable. I felt good immediately. I felt as good three days ago as I do now.”

Trump then noted that his COVID-positive diagnosis “was a blessing from God that I caught it,” he said. “It was a blessing in disguise.”

“I think if I didn’t catch [the virus] we’d be looking at that like a bunch of other drugs,” Trump added.

His comments coincide with reports that Donald Trump, Jr. is allegedly concerned that his father is “acting crazy” since his coronavirus diagnosis and believes the commander-in-chief may need an intervention, theGRIO previously reported.

According to Vanity Fair, Trump, Jr. became concerned after seeing his father riding around Walter Reed National Military Medical Center doing what might be described as a “victory lap” on Sunday night.

Trump was taken to Walter Reed on October 3 after experiencing some symptoms, including a drop in blood oxygen that often signals the most serious COVID-19 cases. He was released on Monday, striding across the White House lawn and giving a thumbs up to reporters, then saluting military officers from the White House balcony for several minutes.

In Wednesday’s video, the president mentions a possible vaccine could be ready before Election Day.

“I want everybody to be given the same treatment as your President,” Trump said, adding: “It was, like, unbelievable.”

The president received free medical care from top physicians — something most Americans don’t have access to.

The U.S. reportedly has over 7.5 million confirmed coronavirus cases and over 211,000 deaths so far.
