According to the press release, since its debut in 2006, the BET Hip Hop Awards have filled a gap in mainstream accolades that honors a musical culture. Fueled by performances, tributes, and memorable rap ciphers, the platform switched this year to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The awards show will air on October 27, 2020, at 8 p.m. ET.
