Travis Scott to pay tuition for 5 HBCU students
Scott announced two of the five selectees on Twitter
In a series of tweets on Wednesday, rapper Travis Scott offered to pay tuition for one semester for five students that currently attend historically black colleges and universities.
Jokingly, Scott initially told his followers that he was stockpiling cell phones because he kept breaking his in excitement. He played along with his fans when they suggested he replace their Airpods, clothing, and a PlayStation 5.

At one point Scott directed a tweet to his student followers and offered to pay tuition for five people for a semester.
The Houston native shared that both his parents had attended HBCUs, with his mother attending Louisiana Grambling State University and his father attending Prairie View A&M in Texas.
Twitter users went into a frenzy and Scott received more than 30,000 comments from students and others requesting assistance, but one student caught the rapper’s attention. Nasire Branch, a Morehouse freshman, stated in a tweet that he had lost out on many traditional high school experiences in his last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“COVID has taken away my prom, my senior graduation, and my freshman year at Morehouse,” Branch posted. “I have been listening to Travis Scott since my freshman year of high school and today (he) tweeted he wants to take care of 5 students tuition! This could change my life!”
Scott announced two of the five selectees on the social media platform, writing that one of the students is studying at Morehouse and the other attends Howard University.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Scott got candid on his views of fatherhood. He is co-parenting two-year old Stormi Webster with makeup mogul, Kylie Jenner, and is raising his daughter to be “a strong black woman.”
“Now, more than ever, it’s like they have the vision. Whether it’s for anything a man can do, anything a woman can do. They got the pure vision,” Scott said.
