Kim Kardashian West shared that husband Kanye West gifted her with a hologram of her later father Robert Kardashian Sr. for her 40th birthday. While she and her sisters appeared to be touched by the gesture, a lot of people on social media were instead deeply creeped out.

“For my birthday, Kanye got me the most thoughtful gift of a lifetime,” Kardashian West posted Thursday. “A special surprise from heaven. A hologram of my dad. SparklesWhite heart It is so lifelike! We watched it over and over, filled with emotion.”

Sources close to her camp revealed to TMZ that received the unorthodox gift “during her bday getaway to a private island. Ye led Kim, KrisKhloeKourtney and Rob into a dark room where the hologram was unveiled.”

The life-size hologram speaks for approximately 3 minutes, wishing the mother of four a happy birthday, telling her how proud he is of her, and cracking playful jokes in a way that mimics her father. West was able to personalize the hologram based on stories and inside jokes his wife had shared with him over the years about her dad and what she loved about him most.

While the gift was meant for Kardashian West, her entire family was said to be blown away by it and watched it over repeatedly. But on social media, the response was decidedly less enthusiastic by those who not only found the hologram disturbing but also felt it was in poor taste to share something so personal.

“Kim Kardashian getting a hologram of her dead dad while millions of Americans didn’t even get to tell their parents goodbye or go to their funerals thanks to COVID is too on the nose,” wrote one follower.

“My favorite part is when your fake dad says ‘You married the most, most, most, most, most genius man of all time, Kanye West.’ That was so sweet of Kanye,” another sarcastically pointed out.
