Lil Nas X channels Nicki Minaj for Halloween costume

The rapper has been a longtime fan of Minaj

If there’s one thing that rapper Lil Nas X knows how to do, it’s get everyone talking.

To celebrate Halloween, the rapper shared images of himself dressed in drag as fellow rapper Nicki Minaj. The costume mimics scenes from Minaj’s “Super Bass” music video.

He donned a signature blonde and pink wig, a pink printed catsuit, and bubblegum makeup. He proudly proclaimed himself “Nas Maraj.”

“This one was really for the boys w the booming system wow,” said Doja Cat.

Rapper 50 Cent tweeted the images making fun of the costume to which the “Old Town Road” rapper responded, “Why u in barb business?”

The rapper, who has been a longtime fan of Minaj, came out as gay at the end of Pride Month in 2019. He reached out to Minaj via Twitter in June 2020 with the interest of working with her on a song.

A Twitter user asked the 21-year-old record-breaking artist why he denied being a “Barb” to which he responded, “I didn’t want people to know I was gay tbh.”

Another user argued that being a Nicki Minaj fan doesn’t make you gay and he agreed, but emphasized the homophobia that still strongly exists in the Hip-Hop industry and culture, saying, “But people will assume if you had an entire fan page dedicated to Nicki u are gay. And the rap/music industry ain’t exactly built or accepting of gay men yet.”

Minaj later responded on Twitter to his tweets, saying “it was a bit of a sting” that he denied being a fan and offered her support, but did not give a direct answer to his collaboration request.
