Berlin’s Madame Tussauds throws out Trump statue

The move comes just days before the Nov. 3 election between Trump and Biden

The Berlin branch of Madame Tussauds Wax museum has made clear its expectation of Tuesday’s presidential election by placing a wax figure of Republican President Donald Trump in a dumpster.

The wax figure sits in front of an image of the Trump Tower hotel and is surrounded by garbage bags and signs that read “Dump Trump,” “Fake news,” “I love Berlin,” and “You are fired!” A “Make America Great Again” red hat is visible on top of the bags of garbage.

Shortly before the US presidential elections, Madame Tussauds Berlin throws the wax figure of Donald Trump into the trash bin and disposes of it on October 30, 2020 in Berlin, Germany. They expect that he is going to lose, so say they don’t need it any longer. (Photo by Tristar Media/Getty Images)

According to Reuters, Orkide Yalcindag, the museum’s marketing manager, says the decision to discard the wax statue is a symbol of what’s to come.

“Today’s activity is rather a symbolic character ahead of the elections in the United States,” she said. “We here at Madame Tussauds Berlin removed Donald Trump’s waxwork as a preparatory measure.”

This isn’t the first time Tussauds has used their wax figure of Trump to make a statement. According to The Hill, in August, the museum’s New York location covered the statue with a mask to encourage visitors to wear them to help decrease the spread of coronavirus.

A new poll released Friday shows Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden leading Trump ahead of Tuesday’s election, according to by Vox’s Matthew Yglesias.

“That stability is good news for Biden. He had a solid lead in the polls four months ago, but there was still much uncertainty as to the ultimate outcome,” Yglesias writes. “That the many subsequent events — conventions, protest and unrest, multiple debates, the president’s Covid-19 illness and recovery — left the race largely steady means that Biden’s odds of victory have grown substantially, even if his polling lead has not. Trump has a clear path to win, but it’s not especially probable.”

The Real Clear Politics tracker shows Biden currently leading in the national average by 7.2 points.
