Biden passes Obama for most votes of all time with 70 million
Joe Biden is currently ahead of President Donald Trump by 2.7 million votes in the popular vote
Joe Biden is making history.
The former vice president has won more votes than any other candidate in history. As of today he is up 69.9 million votes and is 2.7 million votes ahead in the popular vote of President Donald Trump via NPR. Over 100 million ballots were cast. Biden is also leading in states like Michigan after Trump was initially taking the lead and puts him on track to get the 270 electoral votes he needs to win the election.

Not only has he surpassed Trump, but also former president Barack Obama. The former vice president of the United States received about 300,000 more votes than Obama in 2008.
Millions of votes are still being calculated. California has about 64% in and Biden’s popular vote is expected to grow, he is currently winning about two-thirds of the votes there.
But the path for Biden is not 100 % clear. According to The New York Times, at this point both Biden and Trump have a chance to win.
“Trump’s path is exactly the same as it was in 2016,” said Alex Conant, a Republican strategist and a veteran of Senator Marco Rubio’s campaigns. “He needs to overperform in some traditionally blue states. Trump wins when the voters Democrats take for granted no longer reliably vote for Democrats.”

And as for Biden, there are still a few states whose incoming votes could make a difference for him. Guy Cecil, the chairman of Priorities USA and a leading Democratic super PAC, said on Wednesday Biden still has work to do.
“Joe Biden’s path is largely unchanged since he entered this race,” per the NYT. “There are still at least five competitive states giving him multiple paths to 270. It may take a couple of days to count the votes, and we may need to fight the Trump campaign in court, but Joe Biden remains the favorite.”
