Obama and the Clintons congratulate Biden, Harris

Former President Barack Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton sent their congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

After reaching more than 270 electoral votes, crushing President Donald Trump’s chance of getting reelected, Biden has been receiving praise from his Democratic colleagues.

As theGrio previously reported, Biden has been elected to be the 46th president of the United States, alongside Harris, the first Black and Indian Vice President, and the first HBCU-educated person to hold the office.

On November 7, Obama tweeted an image of his statement, which garnered more than 300K likes in its first hour.

“In this election, under circumstances never experienced, Americans turned out in numbers never seen. And once every vote is counted, President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris will have won a historic and decisive victory,” Obama wrote in the statement.

“I know he’ll do the job with the best interests of every American at heart, whether or not he had their vote. So I encourage every American to give him a chance and lend him your support,” the former president continued.

Hillary Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, said , “It’s a history-making ticket, a repudiation of Trump, and a new page for America.”

Former President Bill Clinton said in tweet, “America has spoken and democracy has won.”

Democratic challengers Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), both of whom competed against Biden and Harris, have congratulated the duo.

“Let’s go make some big, structural change,” Warren said.

“I want to congratulate all those who worked so hard to make this historic day possible,” Sanders said.

According to Business Insider, both Biden and Harris’s Twitter bios say “President-Elect” and “Vice President-Elect of the United States,” respectively.
