Beau Biden's death played a major role in Joe Biden not running for president in 2016

Following a Sunday church service, president-elect Joe Biden visited the gravesite of his late son Beau, who succumbed to brain cancer in 2015. He was 46.

According to TMZ, the Biden family attended services at Brandywine Roman Catholic Church in Greenville, Delaware before walking over to the cemetery.

His first wife Neilia and daughter Naomi, who both were tragically killed in a car accident in 1972, are also buried there.

Beau Biden’s death played a major role in the president-elect not running in the 2016 presidential election that would ultimately go to current president, Donald Trump.

In last night’s victory celebration, Biden paid tribute to his son by playing “Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay. Lead singer Chris Martin sang the same son at Beau’s funeral.

In a People article, Dana Bash, CNN anchor, remarked on the sentimental moment as fireworks went off, saying, “a friend of the family texted me to say this was Beau’s favorite song.”

In a 2017 episode of Super Soul Sunday with Oprah Winfrey, Biden reflected on his son’s last moments in which Beau reassured him, “Dad, I’m not afraid.”

Biden was present with his son when he heard of his diagnosis and reveals that Beau confided in his brother Hunter, who Biden called Beau’s “lifeline.”

When discussing his son’s death, he was visibly reflective and somber, as he sat leaning forward with his head down.

“A soul is eternity. A soul is redemption. A soul is a place where forgiveness happens. It’s where you continue to live. I know my boy is with me. I know my daughter, and his wife, his brother, and his mother knows he’s still with us,” he said.
