The doctor says high risk individuals could receive the vaccine as early as December and the rest of the population may have access as early as April.

During an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Tuesday Fauci said, “Don’t give up,” Fauci said. “There’s a real thing called COVID-19 fatigue. That’s understandable. We understand how difficult that is. But hang in there a bit longer, do the thing you need to do, and we’ll be okay.”

Fauci says he hopes people can comply with coronavirus safety measures such as wearing a mask, avoiding big crowds, and washing your hands. Coronavirus cases are rising at levels not seen since the earlier days of the pandemic. The U.S. alone now has over 10 million cases.

But despite the spike, Fauci understands that some are skeptical of getting the vaccine.

“One of the things that we were concerned about [is] that we have a lot of people in this country who may not want to get vaccinated right away,” he said. “It might take well into the second and third quarter to finally get people to be convinced to get vaccinated… But if Jake Tapper wants to get vaccinated, I think you’re going to get vaccinated within the first four months.”

Pharmaceutical company Pfizer collaborated with BioNTech to create the vaccine and say after a clinical trial that it is 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 per Fox Business,

The companies are looking to produce up to 1.3 billion doses per year.

The Food and Drug Administration has yet to approve the vaccine but President Donald Trump claims the vaccine will be fast-tracked for approval.

Fauci says he’s willing to take the vaccine himself. “I trust Pfizer; I trust the FDA,” he told Tapper. “These are colleagues of mine for decades  career scientists.”
