Rapper Benny the Butcher shot during robbery attempt

The status of the rapper's current condition is unknown

TMZ has reported that New York born rapper, Benny the Butcher, is the latest celebrity to have been shot on Saturday. During a robbery attempt outside of a Houston-area Walmart, the artist was shot in the leg.

The rapper – born Jeremie Pennick – was sitting in a parked vehicle with a couple friends when a vehicle with five men pulled up. The men pulled out their weapons and demanded jewelry, according to TMZ.

According to officers, the rapper and his company didn’t moving fast enough. One of the robbers shot at Benny then fled the scene. The rapper and his company took off and later pulled off the road to call the police.

Benny was taken to a local hospital to treat his wound but according to the outlet, the current status of his condition is unknown. The attempted robbers are still at large and Houston officers have opened an investigation.

Rolling Stone featured Benny the Butcher in October for its list of “fastest-rising-up-and coming artists” and placed him in third place with 19.6 million streams after the release of his sophomore album “Burden of Proof.” According to the article, it helped him reach the Artists 500 for the first time, at number 142.

In light of this news, people have taken to Twitter to react and send prayers for the rapper’s recovery. Rapper Juicy J tweeted, “Prayers up for Benny the Butcher.”

Another Twitter user @DebatingHipHop_ noted the rappers who were shot recently including 22-year-old King Von.

On Nov. 14, Louisiana rapper Boosie Badazz was shot at a strip mall while in Dallas to attend a vigil in honor of his friend Mo3. Mo3 was shot and killed on a highway on Nov. 11.
