Byron Allen Presents The Washington DC Gala is an annual event at the National Museum of African American History and Culture celebrating the power and the importance of Black journalists who amplify our voices, our stories, and our culture.

Special guests include Byron Allen, Founder/Chairman/CEO Allen Group and owner of theGrio, comedian Roy Wood Jr., a tribute to journalist Gayle King, the first recipient of theGrio’s Journalist Icon Award recipient, as well as Maryland Governor Wes Moore, NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson, MSNBC president Rashida Jones, author and media host Bevy Smith, members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and more.

This is a celebration of theGrio’s fourth-row seat assignment in the White House press room. We are proud to be the only Black-owned digital media outlet currently holding a place among the 49 coveted seats in the James Brady Press Briefing Room.
