Maiysha Kai [00:00:00] Hey, it’s Maiysha Kai from theGrio’s Writing Black podcast here with more recommendations for Black History Month. You know, this week our thoughts are on Black love. Valentine’s Day is happening, and there’s plenty of reasons to celebrate Black love. We need that good news right now. Black love is here to stay. One of my favorite books of all time is All About Love: New Visions by Bell Hooks. Granted New Visions is its reboot that came out a few years ago. But this book is timeless, and I think it really speaks to what love of self, love of others and love of culture really means to us here in America.

Maiysha Kai [00:00:35] Some other great books for Black Love. I love this title alone. I Can’t Wait to Call You My Wife: African-American Letters of Love and Family in the Civil Rights Era. This is a newer book, but drawing on historical text, which is just amazing. Love in Color: Mythical Tales from Around the World. This is a hardcover out by Bolu Babalola. And lastly, when you talk about Black love and just love of our people, Kwami Brathwaite Black is Beautiful. This came out a few years ago. Amazing coffee table book that just celebrates just how gorgeous we are and of course celebrates the legendary Grand Bassa models as well. Because love can take many forms, but it’s all about Blackness this month, and we want you to get into it. So we have more recommendations on theGrio and as as always on Writing Black. So tune in every Sunday.
