Tech experts support President Obama in YouTube series

Tech executives and experts are the latest to endorse President Barack Obama in the upcoming presidential election.

Tech4Obama, or T4O, has launched a new website and a YouTube series featuring the innovators behind popular websites.

The “Innovator Series” videos consists of dozens of interviews with techies like LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, Dropbox founder Drew Houston and Craigslist founder Craig Newmark, all explaining the importance of innovation and why they support Obama’s re-election.

“Obama understands the backbone of the American Dream is innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Dave Morin, CEO of Path, in the video.

“I support Obama because I personally see how much he cares about innovation,” Hoffman said. “And how much he cares about constructing a future that we all want to have.”

CNET co-founder and former CEO Shelby Bonnie created most of the videos, which were shot out of the Obama campaign offices in San Francisco.

“Each of us was looking at what we could do and found that this group had a deep-seated belief in the importance of innovation and ability to innovate in this country,” he told All Things D. “The consistent theme we wanted to get out is that President Obama gets that and believes in innovation.”

Not all of Silicon Valley is in support of Obama, though. All Things D pointed out that Hewlett Packard’s Meg Whitman and Cisco’s John Chambers are among the tech experts who are part of the Republican party.

There has been no news yet on whether or not they’re launching a similar project in support of Republican candidate Mitt Romney.
