Third New England Patriot says he will skip a White House visit

Patriot linebacker Dont’a Hightower is the third member of the team to say that he will not be going to the White House following the team's Super Bowl win.

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Patriot linebacker Dont’a Hightower is the third member of the team to say that he will not be going to the White House following the team’s Super Bowl win.

“Been there, done that,” Hightower told ESPN on Wednesday. He has, in fact, been to the White House before, attending with a championship Alabama team.

Martellus Bennett had already told reporters that he would not be going on just confirmed his stance on Monday after the win. “It is what it is,” he said. “People know how I feel about it. Just follow me on Twitter.”

And safety Devin McCourty, a team captain, told Time magazine: “Basic reason for me is I don’t feel accepted in the White House. With the president having so many strong opinions and prejudices, I believe certain people might feel accepted there while others won’t.”

The announcement of team members refusing to go to the White House has many people up in arms, especially Trump supporters, but others have pointed out that this isn’t new. After all, the Patriots’ very own Tom Brady didn’t go to the White House in 2015 when Barack Obama was president, so where were the critics then?
