Amandla Stenberg has started to establish a strong track record as a young actress in Hollywood.
The 18-year-old is trailblazing a path for more young actresses of color as well. She’s the star of the new film Everything is Everything, which was released last month and had a respectable showing at the box office.
The film is based on the bestselling book Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon.
In an interview with the young actress, theGrio.com’s Van Crawrford discussed her thoughts on the pressures of representing young actresses of color in a positive and impactful light.
“I feel a weight, definitely,” Stenberg. “But it’s more of a blessing than anything else. It’s empowering, [because] I feel like I have purpose.”
