During his latest trip abroad for Conan Without Borders the comedian and host took a trip to Haiti and it did not go as smoothly as he might have hoped.
The locals were angry over Trump’s “sh**hole countries” remarks and let the host and his camera crew know it while they were there filming for the show in the Caribbean country’s capital of Port-au-Prince.
“We’re being told through our interpreter that when Americans come here they only shoot the bad things, which obviously is not what we want to,” said O’Brien in a preview of the show that was shared on Wednesday.

It should be noted that Conan made the decision to visit Haiti when President Trump made his racist remarks. He truly wanted to show America that the country was far from a “sh**hole.”
He spoke to the locals through the translator that the “reason I have come to Haiti is because I and a lot of Americans are angry at what President Trump said, so I wanted to come here and show positive, great beautiful things about Haiti.”
There was at least one woman, however, who wasn’t having it. “Make sure Trump knows that you guys are the ones who have bullied us, and have caused us to be in the state that we’re in,” she said.
It all ended well though as Conan O’Brien did end up charming the people with a speech in Creole and then bonded even more with the locals, including that woman, with a Trump inspired joke.
Back when he first announced his trip, Conan O’Brien tweeted, “Still reeling from @realDonaldTrump’s very negative Yelp review of Haiti, which means I’ll love it. Headed to Haiti later this week to explore and make some new friends. Stay tuned for my report.”
Since the offensive Trump comments were reported, the President has stated that he is “the least racist person,” which only made O’Brien more determined to go there and do what he could to make it clear that Trump does not stand for most of America.
While most travel shows are apolitical, Conan is turning that tired old way of doing things on its head and people love it. In 2017, O’Brien mocked President Trump’s fight for a border wall by visiting Mexico for an episode of Conan Without Borders.
