Michelle Obama dishes on Sasha’s Buckingham Palace birthday surprise
Many girls dream about being a princess and sleeping in a royal palace and apparently Sasha Obama got to do just that—thanks to her mom Michelle Obama!
During their first official state visit to London in 2011, the Obama family reportedly stayed over at Buckingham Palace. Michelle Obama recently opened up about the experience at a MUSE event, hosted by Klick Health in New York.
The Obamas reportedly spent three days as guests of the royal household and Sasha Obama had quite a memorable experience.
After all at the royal palace, everything that glitters is gold.
“Everything is gold. We had seen the gold room—there’s a room where they keep all the gold,’ Michelle Obama recalled.
“It was Sasha’s birthday and the Queen opened the house and she let us see that room.”
And apparently even the dishes are gold and that can cause some confusion.
Our former first lady says she mistook a gold plate for being a charger instead of the dinner plate.
“During the state banquet, the plate that I thought was the charger, that was the plate. They put food on the gold charger.”
Michelle Obama said the royals like good gossip too.
“Everybody is happy when all the people are gone. They want to be hugged. They want to be touched. They gossip.”
Who knew Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip serve up more than Earl Grey tea!
As for the food, Obama said, American food still reigns supreme.
“I don’t want to insult anybody, American food is just better,” she said.
But the former first lady had to admit the Queen has “better china.”
