Bill Cosby‘s daughter Ensa Cosby was reportedly just weeks away from receiving a kidney and a much-needed transplant, her husband revealed in a new interview.

Her husband Martin McLean said in an interview with the DailyMail.com, that a kidney donor had been identified and the transplant would have taken place in a few weeks but Ensa passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital.

“We didn’t have a date [for the surgery], we had a time-frame,” McLean added. “It was going to be pretty close, sometime in the future.”

Bill Cosby’s 44-year-old daughter Ensa had been living with kidney issues for some time, McLean said. Ensa Cosby had one daughter from a previous relationship.

“She had been battling kidney issues for the past couple of years, she had been on dialysis and she was very brave,” McLean told the DailyMail.com while leaving Wednesday’s funeral at Cosby’s family compound.

Fighting for her father

Ensa Cosby had been a vocal supporter of her father Bill Cosby as he faced sexual assault allegations from multiple women.

“My father has been publicly lynched in the media and my family, my young daughter, my young niece and nephew have had to stand helplessly by and watch the double standard or pretending to protect the rights of some but ignoring the rights of others,” Ensa Cosby said in a statement last year.

“I strongly believe my father is innocent of the crimes alleged against him and I believe that racism has played a big role in all aspects of this scandal.”

The Cosby family suffered another tragic loss of a child in 1997 when Ennis Cosby was murdered during a robbery attempt.

The family reportedly buried Ensa Cosby next to her brother on the family estate in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts.
