Some didn’t think it would happen but in just 26 days Black Panther has surpassed the $1 BILLION mark. It is the 33rd movie to gross $1 billion, the 16th Disney film to reach this milestone, and the fifth Marvel movie to reach it as well.
Black Panther has joined with fellow superhero movies like “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3,” and “Captain America: Civil War.”
In the US alone, Black Panther has grossed $521 million, which made it the ninth highest release in history. Even this weekend, its fourth at the box office, it is expected to make another $40 million. After this weekend, it will be the number 2 superhero film release of all time, over “The Dark Knight’s” $535 million.

On top of all that, this will be the highest third and fourth weekend in history as it scoops that title from The Avengers which made only $36.7 million.
Internationally, Black Panther is also blowing other films out of the water. It is looking to hit the $500 million spot this weekend and that is largely owing to China. On its first day in that country, it made $20 million dollars.

Black Panther has been applauded for its diversity as a big-budget superhero movie with a largely black cast. Set in the fictional African nation of Wakanda, Chadwick Boseman stars as the lead and has a supporting cast that includes Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Michael B. Jordan among others.
