Chance the Rapper posted an apology on Twitter for his word choice and timing when he defended Kanye West‘s MAGA meltdown earlier this week.
Fellow Chi Town native artist Kanye caught the wrath of Black Twitter for calling Donald Trump his “brother” and professing his love for the Orange One. Chance decided to take up for Kanye in a couple tweets.

Talked to him two days ago. He’s in a great space and not affected by folk tryna question his mental or physical health. Same Ye from the Vmas, same Ye from the telethon. https://t.co/2zY3KpllV2

Black people don’t have to be democrats.

The Black democrats thing is what had folks thinking Chance had joined in the MAGA madness with his boy Ye. Even Trump thought so and tweeted about it.
Kanye West has performed a great service to the Black Community – Big things are happening and eyes are being opened for the first time in Decades – Legacy Stuff! Thank you also to Chance and Dr. Darrell Scott, they really get it (lowest Black & Hispanic unemployment in history).

After getting a million digital side-eyes, Chance the Rapper decided to issue an apology via screenshots of the Notes app on his phone.
He starts his apology explaining why he spoke up in the first place. “Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about my city and my loved ones. Kanye West is not just a mentor or big homie to me. He’s my family. No matter how much I may disagree with him, it’s hard for me to watch people talk about someone I love–even if they were justified in doing so. ”
He also made it clear that he’s no Trump supporter by any stretch of the imagination and his comment about Black democrats was true, but ill-timed. Read the entire apology in the tweet below.
